Freeform has announced that the supernatural TV series “Shadowhunters” has officially been cancelled and will conclude with a special two-hour season finale for the second half of season 3. This may just be the worst news ever!
The German film production company, Constantin claim to have lost its output deal from Netflix, who funded a large part of the TV series. Without the financial backing from them, Constantin turned to Freeform for a weightier cash injection, unfortunately resulting in them unable to afford to keep the show running.
Freeform has released the following statement regarding the cancellation:
“We are very proud of ‘Shadowhunters,’ a series that broke new ground in the genre world and became a fan favourite. However, along with our partners at Constantin, we reached the very difficult decision not to renew the show for a fourth season. But as big supporters and fans ourselves, Freeform insisted on and championed the filming of a special two-part finale that would give devoted fans a proper ending. The twelve episodes will air in spring of 2019. We want to thank our talented creators, producers, cast and crew along with our colleagues at Constantin for their hard work and dedication and to Cassie Clare for her incredible book series. We look forward to the final chapter of this breakthrough drama.”
Here’s what the cast members and producers had to say:

It has been an absolutely wonderful experience getting to be part of Shadowhunters for the past three years. After all of it, I hope I have fulfilled my promise of being the best Alec Lightwood you could ask for. Look out for the great work this crew will be doing out of

We are sad to see Shadowhunters come to an end. If it’s any solace to the fans, the episodes to come are truly some of the best of the series. Thank you for all the support.

Angry over the cancellation fans have teamed up together to try and save the show:
TV networks nowadays are rebooting old shows because they can’t think of original ones. Shadowhunters was THAT show. Diverse cast, amazing LGBTQ+ rep, great storytelling, well-developed characters… do not let this show go you cowards #saveshadowhunters #shadowhunters
