Newcastle Jets Midfielder Riley McGree scores an incredible equaliser against Melbourne City in the A-League semi-finals to help fire his side into the Play-Off finals against Melbourne Victory.
The Australian midfielder who is currently on loan from Belgian side Club Brugge after leaving Adelaide United last year has already been an important cog to the Jets team with 5 goals and 1 assist in 11 appearances. But he took all limelight in today’s game with an absolute beauty of a goal after some brilliant link-up play with team-mate Ronald Vargas.

The Newcastle Jets player will no doubt stir up a debate for the best ever scorpion kick goal after surely topping both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Olivier Giroud’s efforts last season. We can safely say that the 19-year-old will never score a goal to top this finish. Take a look;
Commentator Brenton Speed loses his mind.
The home fans couldn’t quite believe it, much like commentator Brenton Speed. “Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! Have you seen a more freakish goal in A-League history?” he screamed after witnessing the wonder goal.
“It’s one of the most amazing things we’ve ever seen.” – Brenton Speed
The reaction to this goal has gone viral. Leading us to have to ask, is this the best A-League goal of all time?
Hilarious yet odd reaction from Newcastle Jets coach.
Unlike the fans and staff who jumped in delight over the goal, one man sat unmoved on the Jets bench. The Jets Manager Ernie Merrick.

However, McGree wasn’t discouraged by his coach’s reaction, reflecting on his moment of magic in a tweet.
Upon watching the replay I actually think I meant that…
Great result by the boys, bring on the grand final next week.

He also jokingly commenting during his post-match interview; “He’s always like that. He doesn’t show emotion at all,” he said.
The Scottish manager did, however, celebrate himself at the post-match press conference, arriving with a beer, and explaining to journalists that McGree’s effort was something worked on on the training ground.

What a difference a season makes. This time last season Newcastle Jets were handed the wooden spoon after finishing rock bottom of the A-League with just 22 Points.
